writer/producer/director-killer ally in lesbian content creation
Christina Raia developed an interest in film very early on as a child. She began writing stories at age five and wrote her first screenplay, or what she thought was a screenplay, by age nine. She knew her love for movies was something bigger than just an interest when a video camera was first placed in her hands at the age of 13. It was from that point forward that her passion in life was clearly defined.
Now 25 and the Founder of CongestedCat Productions, she has completed nine independently produced short films, all as director and producer (7 of which she was also the writer). She wrapped production on her first feature film, Summit, in February of 2013. It premiered at the 2015 Manhattan Film Festival and won an award for Best Horror Feature. Shortly after wrapping Summit, she directed and co-produced the web series “Kelsey,” written by team member Kelsey Rauber. Since premiering in September 2013, the series has garnered an exceptional amount of hits and rave reviews by Critics. Her work has made official selection at festivals across the country in the past three years, most recently the NYS PictureStart Film Festival, Coney Island Film Festival, HollyShorts Monthly Screening Series and Queens World Film Festival. Her work and approach as a writer/director have been covered in mainstream and film media, including the Examiner, Indiewire, BuzzFeed, AfterEllen, Chatham Courier, New York Filmmakers and New York Cine Radio.
She is excited to have a talented and committed group of people to work with, and is incredibly grateful to call those same people her closest friends. She plans to continue building the CongestedCat team as the content produced continues to grow. She also turned her desire to foster collaboration and support in the local film community into IndieWorks, a film series showcasing the work of independent filmmakers in New York. She is currently in post-production for three shorts produced in 2014, pre-production for a fourth short and a pilot both slated for production in 2015, and development for her second feature film slated for 2015. Both the pilot and the feature will be another collaboration with her “Kelsey” producing partner Kelsey Rauber.
Kelsey Rauber is gay. As in happy. Oh, and the other one too. She laughs a lot, which has been a surprising boost to her career. She somehow managed to make people laugh with her, resulting in winning the New York City Screenwriting Festival in the Comedy division of 2012 and making semi finals in the 2013 LA Shorts Comedy Screenplay Competition.
She was lucky enough to find an amazing friend in Christina Raia, who she met in 2010 in a writing course. She worked on Christina’s feature film Summit as a script supervisor as well as on other CongestedCat projects.
The two then teamed up to produce a comedic web series that has a strange title… “Kelsey“. It went on to become a critical and viral success. She is now the co-owner of CongestedCat, and she & Christina have collaborated on two new short films premiering in the fall and a pilot set for production this summer.
She enjoys math and programming and writing music, all of which led to not much…. She was raised in Switzerland, moved to NYC in 2008 and is just loving every moment of it (while tweeting at Christina).
