3 Lesbian Titles of 2006 You May Want to Waste Your Time On Plus One Steamy Webseries

2006 was kind of a underwhelming year for lesbian titles. None of them are films I watched then felt like I needed to watch again, which is strange for me. Any title that makes me overly happy or overly dissatisfied are titles I generally put on repeat until I’ve either convinced myself it is brilliant or given up on it completely.

This film falls under lesbian movie plot #1. It has an interesting twist with the use of aerial gymnastics and leads to some nicely done shots.

I don’t really have much more to say about this title to be honest. It was okay. Checked it off the list of films I needed to see but it just really didn’t do it for me.

The Gymnast VOD at Wolfe Video

If we are making a list from most to least favorite films in 2006 this would be number 2. You know Maria Maggenti from her previous directing work of the Incredibly True Adventures of Two Girls in Love.

This film revolves around a commitment-phobic woman who instead of sitting down and working out her personal shit and staying with the woman she loves decides it would be easier to date a man. She definitely learns the hard way that she needs to let go of herself in order to realize she’d had happiness and she wants it back.

I like it. I like Elizabeth Reaser. I like Julianne Nicholson. The dialogue is a little on the nose and there’s that whole middle part of the movie where the main character is sleeping with a dude but life is a journey and people have to find out their truths in all kinds of ways. This is definitely a title about sexual fluidity and finding truth in the big world without labels. I understand it. I support it. It’s however not my reality.

Watch it and decide for yourself.

Puccini For Beginners (dvd)

I have no idea how I stumbled upon this title…it might have been one of those things where I went to Amazon and typed “lesbian” to see if it were missing anything then blindly bought the dvd. I used to do that a lot before the magic of computers and VOD came to be.

Wow, I’m reading the synopsis on imdb. The synopsis makes it sound like this really brilliant film. See the synopsis here.

However, and I haven’t seen it in a while but this is what I remember. Two high school girls fall in love with this uber dramatic relationship and one of them tries to kill herself. Sounds like the plot to Lost & Delirious. Take away Piper Perabo, phenomenal lighting, and a storyline that gets your blood flowing and you have this film.

I mean, watch it, maybe you love melodrama. Let me know what you think…

I feel really short with my post today so as a reward for sticking it out with me in 2006 here is a web series that seriously makes me laugh.

Love & Suicide (free on YouTube)

season 3 girl

I’m going to be honest. This series confuses the hell out of me. I watched the third season and it was pretty good then I went on to watch other videos and it seems like they are episodes of this girl making out with girls and there’s another episode where she re-enacts Romeo & Juliet…I’m too old, I don’t have the patience to weed through videos of girls making out. Is that weird? I just want good story and production value.

Tucky making out with this girl.

making out with that girl.

It made me remember something I’ve forgotten which I learned at Outfest. Blip.   Blip is another online web series distribution site. I’m still catching up to Tello films so I’ll have to delve into Blip in the future.

…and this girl too…

For the full list of this show check it out on Blip here.

Tucky Williams on Twitter

Okay…so it’s not supposed to be funny. It takes itself really seriously actually but get through the whole thing.

It’s well done. I like the characters. I like the acting. And I lived in Kentucky for a while so I got to the end with this serious question. I’ve asked it to many of my friends. I’m going to scroll down because this is a serious spoiler, so watch the series then scroll down to the bottom of this post and tell me what you think about the situation.

So you’re dating a woman and she is everything you wanted and she turns out to be your long lost cousin. Is that a deal breaker? You’re not having kids together. You were adopted. Seriously, of course this is a storyline out of Kentucky but I can’t say I didn’t put thought into it.
