I know I’m missing a ton of works in the 70s, I think Vampyros Lesbos is somewhere between 1966-1985.
Here is an amazing clip if you REALLY have interest…I used to play this movie at one of the nightclubs where I did tech but if you’re not down with a feature film of basically nothing but strange performance art…this may not be the right choice for you.
Disclaimer: this clip has nudity
And now that you are all hot and bothered by big 70s bushes let’s mature a little a talk about big 80s…well…
1-JUST ONE OF THE GUYS (1985) DIR. LISA GOTTLIEB STARRING JOYCE HYSER
I know I know, you’re first thought is ::gasp:: what about Lianna? What about Desert Hearts? They are great. Revolutionary actually. Amongst the first films to really tackle being lesbian and also being a regular human being, which, I am of the impression was not entirely the case if you were gay in the 80s.
If you are lesbian and you haven’t seen these two films, shame on you! I’ll leave links at the bottom. But right now I really just feel like talking about boobs. And boy does this movie have them.
We’ve got a cross dressing girlie girl who flirts with her best friend, gets asked to the prom by Sherilyn Fenn! Falls for her new male best friend, while she’s dressed as a dude, then, in a very 80s fashion, comes out as a woman by flashing her incredible rack to everyone who needed to know the truth.
This movie is truly classic. Arguably lesbian. But did I mention boobs?
I love this film.
As a reward for us all I am also including this song by Jenny Lewis.
I’ve never read up on the backstory but I don’t think this song and the movie are affiliated in any way.
But the video gets major gay points in my book for starring Kristen Stewart, Anne Hathaway and Brie Larson, and I can say this now because it was big news like a day ago, Kristen Stewart officially has a girlfriend and she doesn’t care who knows it.
And last but not anywhere near least they are alongside my favorite musical artist and second favorite Wilderness Girl Jenny Lewis.

I’m sorry. I can’t say Anne Hathaway’s name without including this. If you haven’t seen her “Wrecking Ball” lip sync battle, stop everything you are doing and praise be for Anne Hathaway.
And now for you lesbian purests:
2-DESERT HEARTS (1985) DIR. DONNA DIETCH STARRING HELEN SHAVER, PATRICIA CHARBONNEAU
Oh man, this movie made me all kinds of excited and confused. I still have a crush on Cay. Although that character had a lot of maturing to do. She played a good game but when it came down to it she was still a child. Great director.
3-LIANNA (1983) DIR. JOHN SAYLES STARRING LINDA GRIFFITHS, JANE HALLAREN
Yeah, I’m not going to spend much time on this one because I found it incredibly boring. I admittedly saw it for the first time only a year or two ago. I’ve been spoiled by the amazing new content that I had a hard time appreciating our history with this one.
